My name is Adrienne G. Scruggs, and I am running for Wayne County Circuit Court Judge.
As a lifelong Wayne County resident and an attorney with nearly two decades of experience, I know that our justice system can do better. While working in my own law practice, as a Judicial Attorney in 3rd Circuit Court, as a Senior Staff Attorney for Wayne County Friend of the Court, and as Referee, I’ve met so many people who come to court and feel they are not seen or treated with the fairness and compassion that they deserve. I’m running to change that. I’m running to improve court services to better meet the unique needs of the Wayne County community, to make court more accessible, equitable, and fair. I am running to ensure that each and every person who steps before the bench is treated with dignity and respect.
A judge must possess integrity, be compassionate, have an even temperament, and be fair. I have those qualities and demonstrate them in every hearing I currently conduct as a Referee. A judge must also blindly and fairly apply the law based upon the facts of the case and be mindful of their ability to adversely impact the lives and livelihood of the people involved in the case. I currently issue recommendations and proposed orders where I am required to listen to testimony of the parties, their witnesses, and review admitted evidence. I have experience in weighing the interests of different parties and making decisions and recommendations. I understand the power I have to impact someone’s life and I treat it with great care and respect. I want to help build a justice system that reflects our shared values of compassion, integrity, equity, and fairness.
We deserve a court system that works for all Wayne County residents—so let’s get to work in making that happen.
