MEET ADRIENNE
Adrienne G. Scruggs is a lifelong Wayne County resident and an attorney with nearly two decades of experience. After graduating from Renaissance High School in 1998, Adrienne earned her bachelor's degree, summa cum laude in 2001 from Tennessee State University. Returning to her Southeast Michigan roots, Adrienne received her law degree from Wayne State University. While working towards her law degree, Adrienne clerked for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the UAW International Union- Solidarity House, building a lifelong passion for justice and service to others.
After graduating from law school, Adrienne operated her own practice focusing on criminal, family, and civil law matters. Adrienne later began working for Wayne County’s 3rd Circuit Court-Civil Division as a Judicial Attorney. She continued her work with the Court and served as a Senior Staff Attorney for the 3rd Circuit Court-Friend of the Court. During her time at the Friend of the Court, Adrienne served on the FOC Outreach Team. Adrienne currently works at Washtenaw County’s 22nd Circuit Court as a Referee, where she conducts hearings on a wide range of family law issues. In these roles, Adrienne worked with her colleagues and community leaders to help make the Court more accessible to the community and to help remove barriers to people litigating their interest, work that she hopes to continue from behind the bench.
As a Referee, Adrienne sees everyday how important it is for the justice system to be accessible, fair, and most of all, compassionate. She believes in seeing the person before her and not condemning them based upon their circumstances, issuing judgements based upon the admissible evidence and not the allegation, or court of public opinion, and maintaining the integrity of the office instead of the vanity of the robe. She is committed to restoring the public trust in the Court and ensuring that every person has the opportunity to litigate their interest, that the proceedings are fair and equitable, and justice tempered with compassion is delivered.
